Talk show host's death ruled a homicide
12:36 PM PDT on Saturday, June 30, 2007
SEATTLE – Police have started their second day of investigation after a King County Medical Examiner identified a badly decomposed body found in a Queen Anne home as Mike Webb, a former radio show host who has been missing for months.
The body has multiple sharp force injuries and on Friday, the death was ruled a homicide.
Crime scene investigators have combed through the Queen Anne house that Webb rented for years before he was reported missing.
It now appears Webb was inside the house all along, placed in a crawl space in the basement. Next door neighbor Derek Evans says it's starting to make sense.
"Flies started showing up in his basement window, it would cover the whole window," he said.
The man who made the gruesome discovery shared details with KING 5.
Dave Neth, the property manager of the Queen Anne home, found the body Thursday afternoon. The home had been rented for years by Webb, a former KIRO 710 talk show host who was convicted of insurance fraud.
Webb vanished in April.
In mid-May Mike Webb's family filed a missing persons report, telling police they worried about the people Webb hung out with.
"It really wasn't until end of April that we really started noticing some unsavory people coming and going," Evans said.
In an e-mail letter to KING 5, Neth, a realtor with the Landmark Group, says he and another worker were at the home at 2505 3rd Avenue West, clearing out items from the basement. The worker had cleared out boxes from a three-foot dirt floor crawl space when Neth spotted the body.
"When I came back downstairs he had the boxes all out and underneath where they were was a blue tarp, neatly squared to the wall and what to me looking into the space was the absolutely clear outline of a body under the tarp ... I told him to leave the house with me and once outside I immediately phoned the police," Neth writes to KING 5.
Neth added there were two other "unusual items" next to the body.
"That seemed very strange to me but I do not want to talk about them at this point," said Neth. "I'll let the police do their thing and see what direction this goes from here."
"I am pretty certain the body will be determined to be Mike's," said Neth earlier in the day. He was skeptical it was a case of suicide.

Former Seattle radio talk show host Mike Webb disappeared in April 2007.
"One does not cover oneself in a neatly squared out tarp and piles boxes on oneself, all after covering over the opening to the crawl space with a loose piece of plywood," Neth said.
Webb's next door neighbor said she has seen some suspicious behavior near the home in recent weeks, and the landlord says all three of Webb's computers were missing from the home, adding to the mystery.
People have been concerned about the well being of Webb after he was convicted of fraud and disappeared last April.
Police say they had previously done a thorough search of the home after Webb went missing, but didn't find a body.
"There have been a number of people in and out of the house, including police officers over the past few weeks, and at those times, no body was ever located," said Metz. "Officers, family members, other friends have come to the house on several occasions."
