REDMOND — The overwhelming success of Cirque du Soleil’s performance of "Varekai" at Marymoor Park has prompted the the company to return in 2008, a year earlier than originally planned.

Cirque had originally committed to two shows over a five-year period. The next show had been set for 2009.

Cirque Du Soleil - a celebrated theatrical show that mixes the arts of the circus and the street, and features original music, light effects and costumes – staged “Varekai” under its trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau, which was set up on the 200,000-square-foot pad built in 2005 to accommodate everything from roller hockey to ice skating.

The troupe staged 54 performances at Marymoor, selling 130,000 tickets over its six-week run.

King County reportedly took in more than $550,000 from the lease of the park and parking revenues.
