SEATTLE - If you plan to travel between Seattle and the Eastside on Sunday morning, you'd better check your traffic because several roads will be closed for the Seafair Marathon.

Zonnie Toledo

The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge in Seattle.

The eastbound lanes of the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge will be closed from 6:45 a.m. until 9 a.m., and several roads in Bellevue and Kirkland will be closed at various times through early afternoon to accommodate the runners.

It's the first time in more than 20 years that the bridge will be shut down for a road race.

Marathon organizers say the new course for 2008 is a scenic point-to-point route taking runners from Husky Stadium, across the bridge. They will travel through Medina and Bellevue before looping back around through Kirkland along the Lake Washington waterfront before finishing in Bellevue Downtown Park.

Police will be stationed at major intersections and volunteers will assist at uncontrolled intersections.

Race participants are encouraged to use the shuttle buses that will run from Bellevue Downtown Park (finish line & post-race festival) to Husky Stadium at the University of Washington in Seattle. Shuttle buses will run from 5 a.m. until the start of the race.

A portion of each registration fee will go to The Floyd and Delores Jones Cancer Institute at Virginia Mason Medical Center.
