Warm weather brings accidents

SEATTLE – The first day of summer brought not only sunshine, warm weather and fun, but also a series of accidents and mishaps.
Des Moines drowning
A woman died after a car went into the water at the Des Moines marina with three people and a dog trapped inside.
According to police, the driver accidentally stepped on the gas and the car plunged into the water.
Two men in their 80s were rescued, but the woman passenger - in her 70s - died.
The dog also drowned.
Kent near drowning
Early Friday evening, Kent Fire Department units responded to reports of a drowning at Lake Meridian Park on the east hill of Kent.

A 14-year-old boy who was swimming with friends in the swimming area of the lake began to struggle in the water and went under. Bystanders called 911 when the boy didn't resurface.
Divers found the youth in about 15 feet of water. They pulled him out and performed CPR.
Rescuers estimate the teen was under water for almost 30 minutes.
The youth was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. His condition was not immediately known.
SeaTac shooting
There also was a fatal shooting in SeaTac on S. 130th Place.

A woman died after a car went into the water at the Des Moines marina.
Authorities did not yet release the victim's name or age until family has been notified.
Boat fire
The U.S. Coast Guard treated five crew members for hypothermia and burns after their pleasure craft caught fire near Port Orchard, Wash.
A Good Samaritan helped the captain of the burning vessel rescue people from the water Friday evening. All five people were taken to the Port Orchard Marina where local fire and emergency medical personnel were waiting to administer aid and transfer them to Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Wash.
