White Center church gets 'divine makeover'

SEATTLE - A White Center church is getting spruced up this week.
Volunteers are working to restore Mount View Presbyterian Church, which they say was nearly falling apart.
The church is more than a place of worship for the White Center community. It also provides after-school programs for kids and teens. Children gather there in the summer as well.
Photographs of hanging rain gutters and dirt floors indicate how bad it was.
"Every inch is being renovated," said volunteer Lina Thompson.
A renovation was estimated to cost $3.5 million, but thanks to volunteers in the community, it's only costing about $400,000.
"When the vision first came to us, we said 'we can't do this,'" said Allen Belton, of the University Presbyterian Church. "But look at it now - we probably have over 400 people now involved in this project."
Besides fixing and cleaning, they're also adding new furniture.
"They said something about a multicultural thing so maybe the kids will feel a little more welcome," said Vanisa Long, a young volunteer.
The project will be nearly complete in two weeks.
