Driver killed in SUV-tanker collision was Hoodsport man

The tanker truck collided with an SUV on Hwy. 101

DUCKABUSH, Wash. – The driver of an SUV who died in a fiery crash with a tanker truck on Highway 101 on the Olympic Peninsula Monday afternoon is identified as 57-year-old Ronald Alness of Hoodsport.

The accident happened at 5:10 p.m. at the Mason-Jefferson County line.

The Washington State Patrol said the flames were so intense, emergency responders couldn't get close.

The State Patrol said the tanker cab caught fire, but firefighters kept the flames from igniting the tanks.

Highway 101 was closed for several hours in both directions.
