FORT LEWIS, Wash. – On Saturday the Washington Army National Guard's 1/168 General Support Aviation Battalion returned home.

The group of about 180 aviators is known as the "raptor battalion." They flew support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom during their year of deployment.

A portion of the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Second Infantry Division returned to Washington Saturday as well.

Both groups were welcomed with a ceremony at Fort Lewis. Friends and family were on hand to greet them at the Soldiers Field House with posters, balloons and hugs.

"It's a relief not to have to lie in bed at night wondering what's going on over there," said one woman in the crowd.
