11-year-old Seattle girl gets national attention for modest clothing plea

07:53 AM PDT on Monday, May 24, 2004

Associated Press

SEATTLE - An eleven-year-old girl who wrote a “Dear Nordstrom” letter is getting national attention for her campaign for more-modest clothing.

Ella Gunderson is scheduled to appear Tuesday on the “Today” show in New York and later on CNN.

Gunderson wrote to the Seattle clothing retailer to complain about low-riding jeans that forced girls to show their belly buttons and underwear. The store replied that it would make more-modest clothing available in its stores to give girls more choices.
