LACEY, Wash. - Lillian Sheldon's family says she was still an active, healthy woman. Just last month she flew down to Los Angeles for the wedding of one of her granddaughters.

Three weeks later she was dead.

"It's always tough to lose anyone, especially your Mom," said State Senator and Mason County Commissioner Tim Sheldon.

Sheldon believes someone may be to blame for his mother's death.

She died Monday after being hospitalized May 9. That afternoon, she had driven herself to the Lacey Fred Meyer, but she never made it inside. Shoppers found her lying injured near the handicapped parking spaces.

"Her hip was broken in about five places… we think her pelvis was also damaged," said Tim Sheldon.

"She indicated to us, the family, when we saw her at the hospital that she had been hit by a vehicle," he said.

On Wednesday, Lacey police were back at the scene and continue to interview witnesses, but so far no one has come forward saying they saw Sheldon either get hit or fall down on her own.

"We are looking for anyone who's a direct witness to it that could help clarify those questions for us," said Comstock.

If someone was responsible, police want to hold them accountable, especially for her family's sake.

"It's tough to lose any family member, but when there's unusual circumstances you like to try to find the real answers," said Comstock.

An autopsy is being conducted, but police say it's quite possible the medical examiner will not be able to tell if a car caused her to fall and hurt her hip.

She is survived by her three children - Tim Sheldon, Mason County Superior Court Judge Toni Sheldon and Tom Sheldon, a former civilian lawyer for the Air Force.
