ROCHESTER, Wash. - A 6-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital with head and liver injuries after his father's trailer rolled over him Wednesday afternoon.

His father was pulling out of the driveway when it happened.

Sheriff's Lt. Chris Mealy says the child was conscious and breathing after being struck about at 1:30 p.m. Police said the boy's liver was seriously torn in the accident.

The Rochester fire chief says the boy was alert and able to tell medics what happened. He says the boy's family was getting ready to leave on a trip when the boy somehow got behind the trailer and was run over.

The father was pulling out of his driveway when the accident happened.

The father told police he had earlier seen his 6-year-old and 8-year-old children in a safe area, but as he moved forward, the 6-year-old was run over by the rear wheels.

The 8-year-old was screaming and yelling at his dad to stop.

"As the father starts pulling out, the 8-year-old comes running up to the truck, pounds on the truck, and alerts the father," Mealy said.

KING 5's Paul Aker arrived in time to see the child airlifted from the scene, on the 9000 block of 180th Way S.W.

The child was airlifted to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma.

This week of sunny weather has now seen two similar tragedies. Monday an 18-month-old Covington girl died when her aunt ran her over.

Police ask the public to use the two cases as a reminder about safety.
