12 teens injured in Buckley deck collapse

03:32 PM PDT on Sunday, May 4, 2008

Associated Press

BUCKLEY, Wash. - A deck collapse in Buckley sent nine teenagers to Pierce County hospitals, but no one was seriously hurt.

Assistant Chief Jake Doty of the Pierce County Fire Department says 12 members of a youth group were posing for photos at a building when the deck collapsed just before 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Three departments -- Pierce County, East Pierce Fire and Rescue and the Buckley Fire Department -- responded to the scene. Nine of the teenagers were taken to hospitals for minor injuries. Three were released to their parents.

The deck measured about six feet wide, 12 feet long and was 14 feet off the ground.

The youth group members ranged from 14 to 18 years old.
