SPOKANE – A man who has preached to congregations in Seattle and Spokane is now accused of trying to kidnap a woman and run down Spokane police officers.

In court, Rev. Lewis's bizarre behavior continued.
On top of that, a bizarre confession has stunned members of his former church.
A police report paints a very strange picture of Rev. Herman Lewis, the senior pastor at Morning Star Baptist Church in Spokane, who admits to leading a double life that included prostitutes and drugs.
Trading his pulpit robe for jail garb, Lewis showed up in court one day after a bizarre incident at a Shari's Restaurant in Spokane.
According to court documents, Lewis told detectives he went to the Shari's Restaurant on Monday to meet a woman to have sex.
According to the police report, Lewis showed up and tried to pay a restaurant cook to have sex in his car. Pointing to his Corvette outside, he handed her a $50 bill. When she said no, he grabbed her by the wrists and attempted to get her out of the building. She put up a fight and refused to go with him.
Police say when officers tried to arrest Lewis, he put his car in reverse, rammed a patrol car several times, and led officers on a brief chase in his Corvette. Police apprehended Lewis at a stop light, using a taser to subdue him. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and a mental evaluation.
During his court appearance in Spokane on Tuesday, more details of the incident were released. The police report indicated that Lewis had a gun in his car and he told officers that he would have killed them to get away.
Lewis also told police he had been living "a double life" since turning 19 by having sex with prostitutes and regularly using crack cocaine and PCP. He said he had been using church money to pay for the prostitutes and drugs.
Friends and family believe he must have snapped.
"You don't have to be a rocket scientist or expert to determine people's erratic behavior and the things he's done is out of character for him," said Rev. Amos Landry, his friend.
According to friends, his wife brought him to the hospital Sunday morning because of erratic behavior. He saw a psychiatrist who evaluated and released him.
Lewis then went to church and told the staff that everyone was getting a raise.
"All the things they are telling me, it's not my brother. It's a totally different person that I've known my entire life," said Alfred Lewis, the pastor's brother.
Lewis is in custody at the Spokane County Jail, where he's lockdown because he was combative during booking Tuesday. Lewis was charged with Unlawful Imprisonment and Assault.
The news comes as a shock to many at People's Institutional Baptist Church in Seattle, where Lewis was an associated minister for three years.
According to his resume, Rev. Herman Lewis Sr. began his career as pastor near his hometown of Winnie, Texas. Between 1980 and 2003 Lewis lived in Austin and Galveston. He was a chaplain for a county jail, a local hospital, and helped build a new baptist church for 400 members. In 2003, he joined the People's Institutional Baptist Church in Seattle. Nothing on his resume has been verified.
Lewis recently reported that he left an $80,000 managerial job at a Seattle Holiday Inn to become the pastor of Spokane's Morning Star Baptist Church last year. The congregation recently moved to a building on West Rowan.
