EVERETT, Wash. – Everett has been named the city was the best-tasting drinking water in Northwest Washington.

Judges selected Everett Thursday after sampling water from Snohomish, Whatcom, Skagit, Island, San Juan, Jefferson and Clallam counties.

"This is a much sought-after award for drinking water providers," Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson said in a press release. "Our water tastes so good because it comes from a high-quality pristine source."

Everett's water supply comes from the nearby Sultan River.

The third annual contest was sponsored by the Northwest Washington Subsection of the American Water Works Association.

Now Everett's water will be judged against water from Washington, Oregon and Idaho in the Pacific Northwest Section Annual Conference on May 2.

The winner of that competition will represent the Pacific Northwest at the American Water Works Association Annual Conference and Exposition in Atlanta, Georgia in June.
