Suspected child molester and meth dealer arrested

SEATTLE - A suspected child molester and meth dealer from Oak Harbor was rearrested Wednesday morning after jumping bail and hiding out for 24 hours.

Police found the 60-year-old John Edward Cowan in a motel in Anacortes, where he checked in under a fake name.

Cowan is accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl, the daughter of an acquaintance, and has a prior sex offense, said Detective Ed Wallace of the Island County Sheriff's Office.

John Cowan is accused of child molestation, and possessing meth and stolen property.

Police also said Cowan was also selling methamphetamine, with a street value of over $10,000, and dealing stolen goods.

He is being held at the Coupeville jail.
