An ambulance, transporting a victim of a classroom explosion at Federal Way High School, arrives at Harborview Hospital in Seattle.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Three people were reported injured because of an explosion in a Federal Way High School chemistry lab Friday afternoon.

The blast was caused by a methanol explosion and has caused significant burns to a teacher's hands and head and burns to two students, according to Monica Colby, a spokeswoman for the Federal Way Fire Department.

The teacher and one of the students were taken to Harborview Medical Center. Another student was taken to St. Francis Hospital for burns, Colby said.

Another student in the lab was also taken to St. Francis Hospital and treated for difficulty breathing, not related directly to the explosion.

The fire was quickly put out and the damage was contained to the room where the explosion happened.

Students were evacuated from the school and then allowed to go home, according to a school district spokeswoman.
