POULSBO, Wash.  - A 32-year-old North Kitsap man has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide after an accident that killed a South Kitsap woman.

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office says the man was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Passat in the 22600 block of Clear Creek Road NW on Monday evening when he crossed the center line and hit a 2000 Mazda Protégé driven by Jessica Z. Torres, 34.

Torres was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Passat was taken to a Bremerton hospital with minor injuries.

The Sheriff's Dept. says a preliminary analysis indicates that the Passat was traveling northbound on Clear Creek Road at a high rate of speed when it crossed the centerline into the opposite lane of travel and began to rotate counterclockwise. It was then struck by the Protege heading southbound.

Investigators believe the excessive speed of the Passat, coupled with drugs and alcohol, were primary contributing causes of the crash.

The driver of the Passat was arrested and booked into the Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide. Bail was set at $100,000. Arraignment is scheduled for later this week.

If you witnessed the collision or have information about the crash you are asked to contact Deputy Dave Fortenbacher at (360) 337-4634.
