Police say they have video of UW attack

Police did not say if the source of the video is from a surveillance camera or a cell phone.

SEATTLE – Seattle Police revealed they have video of the vicious attack on a University of Washington student.

The day after a man attacked the 22-year-old student with a hammer, witnesses came forward, but Thursday, for the first time, Seattle’s police chief revealed that there is also videotape of the attack.

"I can tell you we have some video evidence that we're trying to enhance now from the UW case," said Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske.

Police did not say if the source of the video is from a surveillance camera or a cell phone. Both fraternity and sorority houses on that block have surveillance cameras, but police say the video did not come from there.

And while students have said they are disturbed by the attack, the members of Tau Kappa Epsilon are going a step further.

"No one came to her aid and it's very upsetting, and I think something needs to be done,” said Nick Losh.

Last night, the fraternity held a party and at the door, partygoers were asked to make a donation.

"There's no excuse why we can't help defray some of her medical costs,” said Kevin Merritt.

The police chief says if they get a decent image of the suspect from the tape, they will release it.

According to her friends, the victim is being moved into rehab at Seattle’s Harborview Medical center to prepare her for when she leaves the hospital. She will undergo another surgery next week to reconstruct her cheekbone that was crushed in the attack.

Anyone interested in helping the woman pay for her medical expenses can make a donation to “The Pink Blanket Fund” at any Wells Fargo Bank.
