Capitol High School to reopen after roof collapse

Heavy snow caused Capital High School's roof to collapse last month.

OLYMPIA, Wash.  -- When Capital High School reopens on Monday after being closed following a roof collapse on Christmas Day, it will start two hours late.

District officials said teachers and staff members need the extra time to prepare for the resumption of classes.

District spokesman Peter Rex said, "We won't be able to let them in on Sunday."

On Christmas Day, a 2,500-square-foot section of the high school's roof over its library collapsed into the building because of a heavy snowfall. The collapse broke a sprinkler main and gas line, spilling water throughout much of the school.
