EVERETT, Wash. - A 12-year-old boy has been arrested for investigation of arson for the July 25 fire that caused about $200,000 damage to Lakewood Elementary School near Marysville.

The Herald

One of the moms was treated for smoke inhalation after battling the flames.

A Snohomish County deputy fire marshal made the arrest Friday night and the boy was taken to the Denny Youth Justice Center in Everett.

The boy will be charged with first degree arson.

The fire was reported by a group of mothers who were watching their sons' football practice at nearby Lakewood High School.

The women broke windows to get fire extinguishers. They slowed down the flames until firefighters arrived.

Two classrooms were damaged. A fire captain said the fire could have been much worse and was just minutes away from becoming a large scale attic fire.

One of the women suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.
