One Web site can reveal a lot about you

SEATTLE – It used to be that you had to go to many different Web sites to find the information you need online.
Now, just one can do the whole job – including finding information about you.
"And it's all accessible within seconds. So it's really changed the way people gather information," said Lance Ulanoff of PC Magazine.
He's talking about Spokeo – one of the newest aggregators. It partners with dozens of social networks.

All you do is join, plug in your e-mail and it searches your address book. If your friends post on one or several different social sites, the updates show up on a single page.
"So, if they updated Myspace for instance, then I would be allowed to go onto Spokeo to see what they've posted," said search engine usier Ming Chiang.
But remember that if you're keeping tabs on people, they may be doing the same to you.
"The information you put into a social networking site can lead you to end up having information about you exposed that you thought never would be," says Lee Tien, Electronic Frontier Foundation.
That means anyone can get to your information. So, if you do any online shopping, you need to watch out there too.
"Almost always you will find a public vs. private option, but if you don't select that, the default could be public," said Ulanoff.
If you don't edit the settings, profiles, pictures and videos, something as simple as your shopping "wish list" may be out there for anyone else to see, and that's a balance Ming keeps in mind while keeping up with her friends.
"A lot of times we are very busy with our own lives and it's hard to keep track of what they've been up to," said Ming.
Most of these sites offer up information for free, others require you to pay a fee ranging from about $3 up to about $50 to see more extensive results.
