130 acres of forest near Index to be preserved

08:53 AM PDT on Thursday, July 31, 2008

Associated Press

INDEX, Wash. - The Snohomish County Council is expected to vote Monday to spend $700,000 to help buy 130 acres of forest near Index to save the trees from logging.

With another $550,000 from donors, the county will take possession of the land called Heybrook Ridge as a park. It's visible from Index and Highway 2 and near the new Wild Sky Wilderness.

The Herald of Everett reports W.B. Foresters in Stanwood is selling the land with the help of the Seattle nonprofit Cascade Land Conservancy.
