SHORELINE, Wash. – Getting started on spring cleaning can be tough, especially if you want to be environmentally sensitive.

But taking the green route is easier than ever before.

King County Eco-Consumer Tom Watson helped out the Brock family during their day of spring cleaning.

"It's time to go through all the stuff that we have and lighten our load a little bit," Eric Brock said.

Watson first joined the Brocks in the backyard, where 5-year-old Madeline agreed to give up her playhouse.

"This is nice, this is something a non-profit would really like to have," Watson said.

In the kitchen, Watson found some leftover chemicals in the space under the sink.

"Down here there's some drain cleaner, and this is really pretty toxic," Watson said.

The family planned to collect and separate all unused cleaners, bug sprays and other chemicals items.

Next was the playroom, where the Brocks had that typical cluttered closet. Maddie called it "closet of doom." Everything was to be separated and prepared for donation.

The garage was next, where some unwanted electronics equipment was stored.

"This old casette deck, you said it still works, so that could be donated," said Watson said.

To help keep all this organized, the Brocks set up categorized areas in the garage, where they piled up spring cleaning.

Everything has its place and it's rarely the garbage can.

"We still have a lot to do but this is a great start," Denise Brock said.

On Earth Day, KING 5 will check back in with the Brocks and learn the best places to unload spring cleaning.
