Zombies of Mass Destruction

PORT GAMBLE, Wash. – The small town on the Kitsap Peninsula is crawling with zombies, but it has nothing to do with Halloween.

In the basement of a historic home in Port Gamble, a horrific plot is playing itself out.

"I've never done a horror movie before, but I have to tell you it's fun actually,” said actress Victoria Drake of Renton.

From the contacts to the makeup, we watched her transform into the living dead.

"I get to scream, I get to be sick all over the place which is not pleasant, so it's definitely brought out some different acting skills,” she said.

The name of the movie is “Zombies of Mass Destruction” and it’s part horror movie, part political satire.

For a month, the crew is shooting in Port Gamble. The director says the quaint town was a perfect all-American setting.

"It's perfect for the film in that the town is kind of time-capsuled, it's not really a specific location,” said John Sinno, co-producer and co-writer.

"It's very unique, very manicured, almost has an East Coast type feel to it,” said Kevin Hamedani, director and co-writer.

Sinno hopes to premier the movie at the Toronto Film Festival and perhaps a small theatrical and DVD release.

The big event is an all-night shoot in two weeks. The casting call for 60 to 70 zombies is attracting all kinds of people dying to be a zombie.

The zombie casting call is for November 16 and 17 in Port Gamble. If you’re interested in playing a zombie extra in the movie, write to foregroundbackground@gmail.com and give your name and dates available. The shoot will be all night on both nights of Nov. 16 & 17.
