Hot Mother's Day Gift Ideas from Kelley Moore
06:27 PM PDT on Monday, May 14, 2007
Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate the women in our life that love and nurture us every day. Mother’s have to be creative to manage their daily lives while simultaneously raising children. In recognition of their creativity, surprise them with something more unique than a bouquet of flowers this year. Here are a few of my favorite ideas!
For the traveling mom:
How many times have you been in the security line at the airport and struggled to find your ticket and photo identification? With this modern travel wallet mom won’t have to stress any longer. The wristlet design makes it easy to hold, while your identification is in clear view, and it is the perfect size for passport and ticket. Available in a variety of spring colors and modern prints they are an ideal gift for spring!

For the working mom:
Try counting the number of times mom packed your lunch in your lifetime? Surprise her and leave a lunch packed for her to take to work the Friday before Mother’s Day with a note letting her know that you are looking forward to spending time with her that Sunday. Forget the brown paper bag and pack her lunch in a stylish and colorful suitcase from the Paper Source ($12.00). Make lunch feel extra special by wrapping her sandwich in brown paper and tying it with a wax ribbon. Add a dishtowel trimmed in a colorful ribbon. It just takes a second to stitch a ribbon to an ordinary dishtowel and mom will be impressed.

For the mom who loves to entertain:
Encourage mom to throw an impromptu party by creating a party in a box. Select a box or container that can double as a centerpiece or even container for a flower arrangement. I love the selection of boxes at the Paper Source! Thinking about the color palette, select ribbon that coordinates with the centerpiece. Wrap the ribbon around four luxurious hemstitched napkins and finish the napkin rings off with a brass buckle. Include a set of candlesticks and candles, and include place cards that coordinate as well. In a second mom’s table setting is complete.
For the mom who loves accessories:
I love any accessory and especially jewelry! In lieu of giving mom a new bobble this year, create something for her to store her collection. Start by purchasing a Stainless Steel Magnetic Bulletin Board ($17.99) at the Container Store. While you are there visit the kitchen supply aisle and pick up a Five Canister Magnetic Spice Rack Refill ($4.99 for a set of three) and a Stainless Steel Magnetic Hook Rack ($9.99). The canisters are the ideal container for bracelets, and rings and the hook rack is perfect for mom’s necklaces. If you really want to get fancy use a set of Magnetic Poetry and personalize it.

For the mom who loves modern décor:
If your mom has a contemporary eye, these Wallter Paintable Wall Applications are a fabulous addition to any living space. They come with an adhesive backing so all mom will need to do is paint, peel, and stick to add a graphic element to any room. Enlarge a photo or two and place them within the application and mom will surely be pleased.

For the mom always on the go and in the car:
Everyone should have an emergency kit in the car, but every mom should have a customized kit just for her. Pick out your favorite colorful container (I love the Circle Fabric Tote Boxes from the Container Store $12.99) and then fill it with her favorite protein bar, snacks, miniature first aide kit, miniature nail kit ($1.99 at Fred Meyer), hand lotion, gum, mints, hand sanitizer, Cottonelle Wet Wipes, Shout Wipes, along with anything else that she might need in the car. Add a pink water bottle from Fred Meyer and mom will stay hydrated while 5% of the proceeds benefit breast cancer research. Add a whimsical set of blank note cards ($15.50 from the Paper Source) and a colorful small pen ($9.99 also from the Paper Source) and she will be ready to leave a stylish note at the drop of a hat.

For the mom that loves flowers:
Send mom something that she can share with the entire office or her good friends. Edible Arrangements has a variety of fresh fruit arranged in fun containers and cute boxes. Unlike many arrangements I have received, this one not only looked amazing but the fruit tastes great. My favorite thing is the Dipped Daisies ($25.00) they are adorable and who doesn’t love pineapple and chocolate as a combination! With only one days notice to order it is perfect for the procrastinator in the family.
