SEATTLE - KING 5's "Path to a Better Paycheck" series takes a look at some of the best and worst jobs.

According to Forbes 2011Best and Worst Jobs of 2011 list, one of the worst is driving a taxi cab because of the low pay and high stress, to name a couple reasons. Construction jobs and other work connected with the housing market also ranked toward the bottom of the worst jobs list.

"It's been tough," said Larry Lee Palmer who runs a painting and restoration business. "Our prices have gone literally backwards in order to stay afloat."

Palmer said he reduced the number of people he employs by more than half due to a drastic decline in business. While money is not flowing like it use to now, he says he's optimistic about the future.

"We are seeing indications from my suppliers and from their agents that the economy is not only going to turn around, it is going to turn around with a vengeance," said Palmer.

Fortune Magazine published a different list for 2011, ranking the best places to work. Based on employee surveys and other criteria, the magazine lists the 100 best companies to work for, and several local companies made the cut. REI ranked the highest among local companies, coming in at number 9 on the list.

Employee David Sayler has worked at REI for six years.

"I feel like I am respected by every level of management above me," said Sayler. "I've enjoyed working here so much, I don't see any end in sight."

From Fortune Magazine, the best local companies to work for include:

-#9: REI

-#55: Perkins Coie

-#72: Microsoft

-#74: Nordstrom

-#91: The Everett Clinic

-#98: Starbucks
