KIRKLAND, Wash. - Two teenage boys were struck by a pickup truck Sunday in the 7900 block of NE 122nd Pl in the Juanita area of Kirkland.

A 48-year-old man was driving the truck westbound on NE 122 Pl when it left the roadway and struck the two boys who were walking on the right shoulder of the road, police say.

One boy was not hurt but his 17-year-old friend suffered a cut on his head and was transported with non-life threatening injuries to Evergreen Hospital.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and driving while under the influence, police say.

Sure seems an uptick in DUI accidents. or maybe just reported more. Whatever is the case, fact is that WA state is laughable (NOT) when it comes to cleaning up the roads. How about the state stiffen monetary penalties? GREAT way to help the budget deficit and does not cost taxpayers a dime. First DUI offense in 5 years: automatic $3000 fine and SR27 insurance Second in 5: $5000 fine and 1 yr suspension Third in 5: $10.000 fine and 3 yr suspension. Don't lock 'm up because that's very expensive. Make 'm PAY up. Punish where it REALLY hurts: their wallet. And no "first offense? We'll let is slip and give you a slap on the wrist.". Bunch of wussies in Olympia, if you ask me! @bloodsurf: put down the bottle. You've obviously already had more than you can handle and it's not even lunchtime yet.

HEY, While your at it why don't you arrest everyone who has a disease. That would fix everything. It's just not that easy.

Washington does have a lot of drunk drivers. A WSP trooper told me that many arrests for DUI or DWI are made daily. More so on the weekends.

This place sure has a lot of drunk drivers. There were two drunks that hit each other on I5 the other day. Tell ya what, these public safety boys up here better get on the stick and start getting these clowns off the roads. Use check points, thats a good place to start and triple all of the fines and jail times that go along with it.
