BREMERTON, Wash. - Trooper Tony Radulescu's son, Erick spoke about his father Sunday. It's the first time we've heard from any of the family.

“I’m his only son, and I think I knew him better than anyone so if someone should be talking about his life why not the one person who's been with him through all of it,” he said.

Radulescu was shot and killed early Thursday morning during a traffic stop. The man who shot him later committed suicide. Five people have since been arrested in connection with the murder.

Erick Radulescu, a Joint Base Lewis-McChord medic, called his dad his best friend.

“He was everything, he was a hero, he was the biggest role model in my life,” he said. “He was the go-to guy for everything I ever needed.”

“I don’t think I know a person anywhere that doesn’t love him,” he said.

Erick said his dad loved people and loved reaching out to people.

“He loved making people’s lives better, and he had a knack for being able to do his job in a way that – even people that he was doing negative things to – could come out of it feeling better about themselves and about police and about everything in life,” he said.

He said he was trying to be strong for his family.

“In my job I’ve seen a lot of bad things happen, so I guess you cope differently after a while,” he said. “I think there’s a time for the grieving and there’s a time to be strong, and right now I just need to be there for my family and for everyone else that’s involved.”

Erick said he had not given any thought to becoming a State Trooper but now is considering it.

"It was never a thought before but I want to do anything I can to bring credit to him and what he's accomplished," he said.

A memorial for Trooper Radulescu will be held March 1 at 1 p.m. at ShoWare Center in Kent. The public is invited.

Your family has been in my prayers this week. I'm so deeply grateful for people like your dad - and you - who are willing to serve your country and your community even at the risk it may cost everything. May God comfort all of you as you grieve and bless you as this different part of your lives begin.

I'm so sad for Erik and his dad sounds like something that is rare today in parenting..Kids carrying guns to school, bullying, fighting each other, etc...Doesn't sound like children who was fathered by Tony Radlescue. Erik, I hope all the beautiful memories you hold in your heart of your father help you through this tragedy in your life.

Eric, our thoughts are with you and your family at this terrible time. The community as a whole embraces you. Your father was a hero. I know that your heart is hurting, but your father will be there in your heart and in all your endeavors in life. To the other posters? Don't feed the troll.

um to the person who has nothing better to do than be super rude. we live in a smaller town and almost everyone knows every body. i had class with eric and he is a great guy who just lost his father and you are saying he deserved to die well you are a piece of trash i hope that people speak better to you after you lose your loved ones so maybe your mean streak will end. and i hope karma gets you twice as bad, because you are a terrible person and should not leave statements like that on this link. its just about what his son had to say.

I find it disgusting and repugnant that there are SO MANY people that are just a waste of life. 5 additional people involved in this one dirtbags cowardly act. It is incredible to me that none of these people had ANY moral fiber to do the right thing. Simply amazing! And then we have another innocent guy killed (forest service guy) by one more derelict on drugs with a passenger stupid enough to put their life in his hands. All this should not be to surprising to any of us though. As soon as you take away the knowledge of any moral accountability to a higher authority... this is where it leads. It is very sad though. I guess since society has no desire to turn around we will continue to see more and more of these heartbreaking incidents. So tragic!

God bless you Erick, and your family. Charley, I'm not sure what you're implying by saying that daughters enlist less than sons -- that's been going on since the dawn of civilization, as women stay home to care for families while the men go to war. Men do NOT have to enlist in any police/military service to be honorable. Being an honorable man (or woman!) to me means raising your kids to be compassionate and tolerant of ideas and religions that are not your own. People who take the extra step and defend all of us against those who don't follow the basic rules of civilized society DO deserve extra accolades. But Charley, please don't try to tell us that not being in the military makes you somehow less honorable than the rest of us. (I'm a woman, by the way, whose father was an Army Captain in WWII, not that that matters in this discussion.)

Eric has already started to honor his dad, by enlisting. Most sons never have served in the military. Fewer daughters serve. By his enlisting and serving, he doesnt have to become a State trooper. I dont think anyone would expect you to, nor demand it. Being an honorable man and showing the traits your dad did should be enough. You want to make your dad proud, Eric you know your dad was proud of you no matter what you did in life. Former soldier here, CSC 1/41 INF. PMOS; 11b20r6
