SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. - A snowboarder was killed in an avalanche at Alpental at Snoqualmie Pass on Sunday.

Karl Milanoski, 41, was with friends in an area known as Denny Mountain. He was heading down a chute when he triggered a slab avalanche, which swept him off a cliff, the King County Sheriff’s Office said.

Milanoski's two friends were able to hike out and go for help

The Ski Patrol believes Milanoski fell about 500 feet.

Family members say Milanoski was avid outdoorsman. He grew up on Whidbey Island and leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter.

A memorial fund page has been set up.

I hope this free spirited dare devil had life insurance so his daughter can be cared for adequately. Shredding a chute is not worth dying and leaving your daughter to go up without you.
