In the garden of Saint Margaret of Scotland Church on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle, you'll find a memorial to thousands of Polish soldiers captured and killed by the Soviets in 1940.

On this day, 70 years later, Seattle's Polish community suffers another loss. Polish flags around town hang with black bands as thousands - many of them political refugees who moved here to Washington - mourn their president and all the dignitaries killed in a plane crash in Russia Saturday morning.
