SEATTLE - In a small corner of Seattle's Fisherman's Terminal a group of volunteers is trying to figure the best way to pack a shipping container with fishing gear.
They have collected $85,000 worth of goods to be shipped to the small Chilean lobster fishing community of Robinson Crusoe Island.
"They're going to be very happy, they're going to be very, very happy," said a smiling Chilean college professor Billy Ernst.
Ernst turned to Seattle's fishing fleet for help after a February earthquake and tsunami washed over the village and wiped out the island's famed lobster fishing fleet.
"Very important, I would say 95 percent of their economy," said Ernst.
Ernst was amazed by the response. Members of the fishing community - crab, scallop, ground fish, pollock, cod, you name it - contributed to the cause. Their donations were used to buy ropes, chains, engines, winches, and just about everything else the devastated fishermen of Robinson Crusoe Island said they needed to get back on the water.
