SEATTLE -- Today, the Wah Mee Gambling club remains closed. In February 1983,  3 young men entered the club, hogtied 14 people and shot the victims. 13 people died. One man, Wai Chin, survived the massacre and helped police solve the case.

Seattle Police Captain Neil Low helped protect Chin so he could testify at the killers' trials. One of the men involved in the plot, Tony Ng, was convicted of robbery and assault.  He is eligible for parole in 2014.

I've read through the comments here and I'm confused. I read the article with the understanding it is talking about the "last living witness" of the events that sad day for not only the Chinese community but for the entire Seattle Metro area. With that having been stated what I don't understand is why everyone commenting is posting regarding the perpetrators and convicted felons in this in this case? I'm simply curious as I read the article with one line of understanding and I'm wondering if I missed something here by chance? I have been studying and completing assignments for 6 hours today so I could have missed it as I'm a bit overdone with reading.

If you get a chance, you should read the e-book "Wah Mee" by Seattle journalist Todd Matthews. It's available on Amazon. I would link to it (and his Web site -- which you can easily find via Google), but it looks like KING-5 won't allow hyperlinks in its comments.

he was involved in a terrible crime and deserves more time My grandfather was murdered by those 3 men one and a half years earlier. All he was doing was taking his morning walk. He was in the wrong place at tne wrong time. Unfortunately i have to live with hearing about them every year, when they will never serve the sentence they got for my grandfather because they wont live long enough before they are done serving the other sentences.

@invalid, thanks for filling in the holes. The person getting out should have been named and his sentances. TY. 13 counts of 1st degree robbery & 1 cnt of assalt w/weapon. WTF, you are an assersory after the fact plain and simple, unless he rolled over on the other 2 for a deal. What did he get less than minimum sentances? thats less that 2years per a charge. 1st Roberry should have a 7yr min to it, thats91yrs, and asslt carries about 4, so he should technically be in 95 yrs thats about 60yrs more than a stanard 33yr life sentance. Parole should only be used when the minum sentance of each crime has been served. People wonder why crime is prevailent, the justice system is a joke.

Time flies. I remember the details as though they were spoken last night on the news. Tony will get out but we will revoke his citizenship and send him home.

This is just fantastic journalism right here. The guy who is eligible for parole is Tony Ng. Strictly speaking, he was not "one of the killers". He convinced the jury that he was forced to take part in the robbery and was convicted of 13 counts of first-degree robbery and a single count of assault with a deadly weapon. The other two are serving life sentences without possibility of parole.

I know it is also wrong if you rob a place and kill the proprietor in a scuffle, but that is the kind of crime that you shood be elgible for early release, if even then. But shooting 14 helpless people is just cold blooded premeditated murder that should have been dealt with the day they found the perps.

February 1983. . . wow it seems like only yesterday. I guess I'm getting older. I think it's time buy a box of Depends, pick up a case of Ensure and a pair of geriatric tennis shoes, then sit back in my Hoveround and wait for senility to kick in.

How can you kill 13 people and now be eligible for parole in 2014?

@lindastokes: Given that nobody could be troubled to include that information in the copy below the video, I think you can be forgiven for that oversight. There is way too much video on the web these days. It's great if you've got time to sit and wait for it to buffer, and to watch the ad that invariably precedes it, but the rest of the time, I just want to scan the text for a summary!

The perp should never have been granted the possibility of parole. The absolute reckless disregard for human lives deserves nothing less. Still, I can't believe it's been 29 years since it happened. How time flies.

I hope that for the safety of this man and for the horrific nature of this crime, that the persons involved, never be granted parole, they murdered 13 people in cold blood, "NEVER". This man shouldn't have to spend the rest of his life in fear.
