BELLEVUE, Wash. - Progress is being made in the effort to restore utilities to families living near a major landslide in Bellevue.

Three homes on West Lake Sammamish Parkway were damaged by the slide on Sunday. Another home was evacuated. The road is closed indefinitely.

Bellevue Utilities crews made temporary repairs to a broken water main at the 500 block of West Lake Sammamish Parkway, and all but three homes have had water service restored.

It’s a popular route for Microsoft employees. Detours were set up around the closure Monday morning and that could add another 15 minutes to the commute.

West Lake Sammamish Parkway is closed from Northeast Second Street at Northup Way (north) to Southeast 26th Street (south) until further notice.

  • From the south end, drivers will be detoured to Southeast 26th Street, leading to 168th and 164th avenues Southeast.
  • From the north end, drivers will be detoured to Northup Way and Northeast Eighth Street.  Local access only is permitted between Northeast Second and Southeast 26th streets.

Bellevue School District bus service has been cancelled in the area.  Parents with children who ride the bus in that area are being asked to be in contact with their child's school to be notified when bus service will resume.

Allied Waste Services may not be able to collect garbage from some homes on the Parkway, but is looking into alternate forms of collection.

It's still not known if the main break resulted in the mudslide or the mudslide compromised the area around the water main, resulting in the break.

If I'm thinking of the same one you are remembering, it wasn't tree removal that caused it. That slide was just south of NE 15th. This slide is much further south, near Weowna Park. That slide was caused by a previous homeowner who created a larger backyard by using fill material on the slope above the parkway. The soil saturated in a rainstorm, slid down the hill and took all the trees with it. That was an impressive pile of dirt and trees! The City put in drainage, covered the hillside with rock and replanted trees. The City was threatening to sue the current owner. Not sure what ever came of that one.....

Is this the same section that came down a few years ago when some idiot removed a bunch of trees illegally from his property???
