BELLEVUE -- President Obama attended a private fundraiser at a Medina home on Lake Washington Friday afternoon during his brief visit to Seattle.

The home belongs to Jeff Brotman, a co-founder of Costco. Jeff and his wife Susan hosted a $17,900 per person lunch for the president.

Only part of the money paid for each RSVP goes to President Obama's re-election campaign. White House officials said $5,000 will go to the campaign, and the remainder goes to the Democratic National Committee.

Inside the home, President Obama thanked the Brotmans, and said, "It's wonderful to be back in the Pacific Northwest."

With Microsoft founder Bill Gates in attendance, Obama mentioned the philanthropist three times during his remarks to the guests.

"Now this election is not going to be as sexy as 2008," the President joked. "My hair is grayer. I've got a little dings and bruises...but I have to tell you, the stakes are so much higher than in 2008."

After leaving the Brotman home, Obama shook hands and waved to kids from Medina Elementary School who waited two hours to see him.

"Hey guys you're all so wet!" He yelled. "I wouldn't have had you stand out here if I knew it would be raining."

Following the visit to the Brotman home, President Obama attended another campaign fundraiser at the Westin Hotel in Bellevue, attended by Governor Chris Gregoire.

I think they should all get a pay cut too, and see how it feels. Their plates were more then we get in a year, budgeting, saving doesn't seam to matter.

It goes to show you how over educated idiots would continue to throw money at this phony. He is running the country into the ground and gas is headed to five dollars a gallon. Is this the change we were supposed to be getting? These people can afford five dollars a gallon, most of us can not. He is the black Jimmy Carter.

Imagine how many people could be fed for that outrageous amount of money. I wouldn't pay $1 to see or hear him. This is a prime example of why our country is in the financial condition it is in.

I remember when he was the President and went to the donut shop and ate donuts with "real" people. Now that he's the CANDIDATE, you don't get to talk to him unless you pay $18,000! I wish he would go back to being the President so the rest of us could have a donut with him and tell him what's on our minds and what we would like to see him do next. I hate candidates, but I love Presidents.

" I wouldn't have had you all stand out here if I know it would be raining..." your in Washington of course its going to be raining. :O) I'm sorry... wait no i'm not, none of the people in our government deserve half of the pay they are getting for doing such a crappy job! They should all be "retired" (fired sounds better to me) and replaced with people who want to help make this a better country NOT make their pockets fatter. Pay for all government positions should be cut in half , then maybe the people who run for the positions ( because we don't make them take the job they volunteer !! ) wont be all about padding their pockets and will actually care about improving the country !! THAT WOULD BE NICE FOR A CHANGE. To set a good example obama can take a pay cut , but for some reason I don't see that happening.

At a certain level, it's not what ethnicity you are--it's how much money you make. Money is the great equalizer, more than democracy. The more money you have, the more equal you are. Obama has more in common with the rich, than the middle class and nothing at all in common with poor people. Him and Romney are both a joke.

The U.S used to be the world's #1 ship builder, but the government stop subsidizing that industry... Lots of people losts their jobs, local economies were hurt, and now China and South Korea are the world's biggest ship builders. Yet the government can bail out the auto industry, airlines, and Wall street???

gladimoved, please move out. While watching news coverage of the President's visit last night I couldn't wait to read the comments from the stupid right wing wacko's. Now listen up people. I know you didn't pay attention in school so here's a lesson for you; The man visiting yesterday is ONE THIRD of the United States government. Stick that up your____________. We read about you weirdo's in the toilets all the time. And another thing; People like Warren Buffet are rich for a reason. It's called the United States of America. Many understand that the Bush-right wing greed tax cuts can never work and will bring this country down. Look around. Do you see anything except vegetables like yourselves that would be here without government of the people, not right wing wacko's?

How in the hell do you know that Obama doesn't like getting $$$ from his rich buddies. And you make the asinine assumption that Dems are somehow not into making money. How stupid can one be?

@markf, ummm... so, how do you feel about the government panopticon telling you how to spend your money? Or maybe you prefer to give all your money to government so it can spend it for you. I know that people paying this money today are contributing to homeless/food banks, etc. in their vain workings of public relations. You gotta complain and say things you know nothing about, all in some vain attempt to feel important and better than those who political beliefs don't align with yours. Fascinating, eh?

I should say: The monthly "cost of living" "allowance" (don't you just LOVE these terms?) so graciously apportioned to Socialist Insecurity recipients who, without question, have LOST the vast majority of their "contribution" through this system of inflationary debt.

Intresting that Costco put the State out of the liquor business. Every liberal in WA was ready to stone him, now he is hosting the President......it really is about the mone doesn't matter which side of the isle you're on. This is where I'd usually put my plug for Ron Paul, but people want more if the same and Obama will win again, or somehow a Republican will take his place, really no difference between them. Go Paul!

Quite interesting that we don't hear the same outrage regarding these campaign stops, particularly with whom Obama's hobnobbing with, as we did with his predecessor. I thought Obama was to usher in a new kind of politics? A man who is for the "little guy", not like the dastardly Republicans who are only out for their "cronies" (remember hearing that incessantly during Bush's term?), i.e., the rich? Or as John Edwards used to constantly regurgitate, the "haves" rather than the "have nots". So much for the idealistic "Hope & Change" mantra. Boy did so many foolishly buy into that hook line and sinker. But apparently it's conservatives such as myself who are the ignorant sheeple.

Geezus people, it's a fundraiser. You know what they do at fundraisers? They raise money. If people want to spend their money this way, why are you complaining? You are anti-American if you want to tell people how to spend their money. How does this affect you guys? It doesn't. How do you people know that people paying this money today aren't also contributing to homeless/food banks, etc? You don't, but you gotta complain and say things you know nothing about, all in some vain attempt to feel important and better than those who political beliefs don't align with yours.

Yeah, when GWB visited in 2003, raising money at a republican fundraiser, he visited the lesser well-to-do area of Hunts Point. ***You know, where there are mere shanties for homes compared to Medina.***HA! ***I think most presidents are out of touch of how people live, especially in these tough economic times. But to believe the republicans in the house recently, or those who are currently running for the nomination are so in touch with the "little people" , is a crock of shat.*** It's one thing if you don't agree with Obama's policies, but to out and out forget what other presidents have done to ruin our country, and to drag us down in unimaginable debt, is laughable. @@@Welcome to our state, President Obama.@@@
