POULSO, Wash. -- One man is dead Wednesday night after officers responded to a shooting at a tire center in Poulsbo.

Police say they were first called to the Les Schwab tire store at 424 Northwest Edvard Street at or around 6 p.m. on multiple shots fired.

After the scene calmed down, police told KING 5 that one man was dead but couldn't comment any further.

An eyewitness at the scene says that she saw a man waving a gun in the air near the tire store.  Police then asked him multiple times to put the gun down and when he didn't, the man was shot.

Family tells KING 5 the man on the ground is 25-years-old and has had no connection to this particular Les Schwab store.  The family also tell us that he's never been in trouble and they didn't think he even knew how to shoot a gun.

No officers were injured in the incident. Three officers are on administrative leave until police figure out exactly what happened.

This is a developing story and the story will be updated as more information is available.

richard: I was joking. I'm not LEO. But anyone who has actually shot, and knows anything about how people respond to certain bullets should know this... The police-issued (most likely)9mm is NOT a big round. It's a politically-correct round. Maurice Clemmons was shot at Forza in the back, and was running for days. Here's the deal... if you decide to walk into a public place and wave a gun around, you are showing recklessness... this is why when I carry, I have it well-concealed under my coat. Many meth-heads may able to take many 9mm rounds before falling, this situation was worse... HE HAD A GUN. Kudos to the officers for the fatal shot. I think officers should carry much bigger rounds .357 , or hell, a .45, cause thugs are running around with big guns. I'm pro-gun... and idiots like this, are hurting our case for 2nd amendment rights.

Gee I wonder who would be willing to be a police officer if they are only allowed to talk nicely to suspects. Who oddly enough have no rules as to if they can shoot or when. Can't the police just be all pleasant and helpful to the people among us that are up to no good. Perhaps if they hug a thug enough they can get them to sing along with Barney the pink dinosaur.

This situation I understand that this man was carrying a gun, so it could of gone very bad.. so i totally get the Police Officers decision to shoot the man fatally. BUT - @richard98075 - so I'm assuming you ARE a LEO, then? You can't begin to tell me that you have such horrible target practice that you couldn't shoot someone a few times in a leg, or arm, or shoulder to stun them long enough to disarm them? (again - i understand this case is different) If you can't shoot someone in the leg or arm, then obviously you should probably go back and practice until you feel confident enough to do so. I'd hope our police would be true marksmen... but I guess I am severely wrong! This is worrying. I agree with omgrolf and jackwong. Police need to stop shooting people with fatal shots for crimes that don't warrant a death sentence!

@jackwong: you're obviously not a LEO otherwise you'd know that what you propose sounds absolutely unequivocally LUDICROUS.

omgrofl: Completely agree... I think police should only arm with a .22 instead of a 9mm. Also, their training should also ban them from shooting in the major arteries, else face prosecution of murder.

Shoot to maim? Omgrofl if I shot you in the leg you would yell you just shot me and drop to the ground holding your leg. Because you are, 1 not angry or agitated to begin with. You are not armed and cannot shoot back. And you are not performing a criminal act at the time that I shoot you in the leg. Then there is the whole problem of where do the bullets go? Go to a firing range and rent a gun. Put a target at about ten feet away and try to shoot the paper on the outside edges. Most of the bullets will fly right past it and go to the backstop behind the target.

What I can't figure out is, why can't the police shoot to maim a person rather than shoot to kill them? A shot to the arm or the leg would have put the guy out of commission long enough to subdue him. Don't ya think?

I had just come home from visiting another LS location to get an estimate for new tires and my wallet felt like it had been shot a few times too. Tirerack.com all the way!

Probably upset that he couldn't just purchase brake pads and Les Schwab was making him pay $600 for the whole brake set.
