SEATTLE -- Bottles were thrown, more pepper spray was deployed and police put on riot gear Wednesday night as Seattle police and Occupy Seattle protesters clashed outside the downtown Sheraton Hotel.

This comes on the heels of arrests made at a Chase bank branch in Capitol Hill and the CEO of JP Morgan Chase speaking at a UW Business school celebration at the downtown Sheraton Hotel.

Arrests made at Chase branch in Capitol Hill

Earlier this afternoon, Seattle police arrested three men and two women and deployed pepper spray at one point as Occupy Seattle protesters mobilized at the Chase bank branch on the corner of Broadway and East Thomas Street.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as some protesters scuffled with police as police made the arrests.

According to Seattle police, the protesters locked themselves together and prevented customers from accessing the bank teller counters.  The protesters refused to unlock themselves and leave the bank.

Another man was arrested for obstructing officers while they were trying to remove protesters from the bank.

At least 10 officers were physically assaulted and two suffered minor injuries while police tried to remove the arrested individuals from the scene.  At one point, one officer was even struck in the chest by an empty beer bottle but was not injured.

Dimon personifies everything Occupy Seattle is against

Protesters say Dimon personifies everything they're against, but his staffers say under his leadership, Chase has done a lot for the community.

"We could talk all day about whether CEO compensation is too high in general, and probably it is, but if someone deserves a high level of compensation, a lot of people on Wall Street say he is one guy who would," said Vice President of Wedbush Securities Scott Smallman.

In December 2008--under Dimon's leadership--Chase took over Washington Mutual--known for its consumer friendly appeal and free checking.  Chase laid off 4000 employees and bailed out on its lease with the Seattle Art Museum, leaving SAM scrambling for a new tenant.

And as for the Family Fourth Fireworks celebrations over Lake Union, Chase eventually walked away as the main sponsor.

During a visit to Seattle in 2009, Dimon told reporters there were more urgent problems.

"There are a lot of great things we do.  If you want to focus on fireworks go ahead," said Dimon.

Since then Chase has been making its mark as the third largest philanthropist in the state behind Microsoft and Boeing.

The bank says it gave over $10 million in Washington state last year alone and is opening 15 new branches here this year, hiring 700 workers.

Last January, Chase donated $4 million to enterprise Cascadia, a non-profit lender, expected to produce about 2000 jobs for local businesses.

But those efforts don't impress Susan Wilkinson, a protester who is closing her accounts at Chase.

"That's like me saying with my income that i bought a candy bar last week for a homeless person, doesn't that make me a hero, that's a small drop in the bucket compared to the billions that they make on our backs," said Wilkinson.

UW had Dimon planned more than a year ago

UW say they invited CEO Jamie Dimon to speak at this event more than a year ago, before any of the occupy protests began.

The suspects had locked themselves together and prevented customers from accessing the bank teller counters.  The suspects refused to unlock themselves and leave the premises after several verbal warnings to do so from officers.

An adult male suspect who obstructed officers while they were trying to remove the suspects from the scene was arrested for obstructing a public officer.  He was interviewed and released from the precinct.

The five suspects arrested inside the bank were transported to the East Precinct for processing and subsequently booked into the King County Jail for Criminal Trespassing.

At least 10 officers (nine officers and one sergeant) were physically assaulted while facilitating the removal of the arrested suspects from the scene.  Pepper spray was deployed to provide cover for the officers under attack and to disperse the assailants.

At least two officers sustained minor injuries but did not require medical transportation.  One officer was struck in the chest by an empty beer bottle but was not injured.

The cops are in the wrong, here, and by now it's pretty obvious that they'll only protect the highest bidder.

WOW. And I thought I lived in one of the most intelligent cities in the country. Look at you HateMongers. What a horribly inaccurate report. This is a complete travesty of journalism. I WAS DOWN THERE, IN SUPPORT OF OCCUPY(WS/SEA). -I- talked to the officer in question who claimed to be hit with the beer bottle. And he admitted freely that he couldn't be sure that it was anyone involved with the OWS/Sea Protest. In fact, he bragged about how he is trained to react like it could've been ANY of the people in front of them. Regardless of the fact that they weren't even facing him. At no point did any member of our movement assault a police officer, so these claims of officers being assaulted by protestors is misinformation. WE ARE A NON-VIOLENT, PEACEFUL PROTEST. And you think it's ok for cops to beat innocent women and children. SHAME ON YOU, PEOPLE.

Only six arrested? Not bad. Why are the protesters that cause the trouble always wearing black hoods? Trespassing is a crime, but under these "portests" the law never seems to apply. Good job SPD, I'm for bank reform and prosecuting the cheaters, but blocking bank entrances and inhibiting business is not the right way.

Re-institute the draft and put these bags of lazy trash through basic training in the U.S. Army. They want to give orders, but they fail to understand that in order to give orders, you first must learn to TAKE orders.

Violence never. You will never win with violence. You have to be committed enough to endure the hatred and pain and you will win. Violence gives them an excuse to use overwelhming power. Stay non-violent and show the world you have the moral ground and if they beat you, take it and say you forgive them. Non violence is more powerful than might. Stay strong, stay committed and stay non violent and win.

We will be out tomorrow together as one voice, exercising our 2nd amendment rights and protesting with signs saying, "Hey corporate CEOs, Hear our voice or Hear our gun!"

What the movement needs to do next is to waive bail, sit in jail for a while and demand a jury trial. That would clog the jail and court systems up real good! Occupy jail!!!!

The protest people have three options, go home, protest peacefully, or turn to riots. Going home won't work for most, as the many are homeless who are being fed by the parents of the others so they will stay and make the numbers look netters. Being peaceful doesn't work because the people that agent already there couldn't care less about theory cause near nobody knows what it is. Eventually the press will go away and they will be freezing for nothing. Oh, they already are. Finally, terrorist activities will get them on tv, get them a warm bed, and free food. But then the people that don't care, will care. They will care that these idiots spend more time in jail with less freedom.

Getting rid of useless degrees like political science and sociology should reduce the amount of defaulted student loans you slackards (protesters) cause. Get jobs, come back in 20 years (after you have paid your dues) and then tell the world how unjust it is.

@Bazwest: Not communism. But Socialism. Yes, it has been tried, it's not perfect - but it's more refined than Capitalism. Just look at Europe... America should be more like Europe. They have free healthcare, 35 hour workweeks, guaranteed education(higher education), guaranteed pensions, etc. It's because of their high taxes, which forces the businesses to RE-INVEST right back into their businesses, thereby, hiring more people. Now, American companies are just hoarding the cash and not spending it... they blame "uncertainty," and "regulations," I call it BS. I think it's the big G-word. GREED. GREED. GREED. Capitalism lets lawless, and corrupt profiteers make decisions. Whereas, Socialism has people who are elected, and accountable to the voters make economic decisions.

@ Jackwong-what is your idea of social justice? If it is Communism you tout, it has already been tried and failed miserably. Anytime government undertakes a program to relieve people of their private property and the profit incentive in order to give it to those who haven't earned it, you get in it's place corruption, fraud, murder, terror, deprivation, starvation, and misery.

I'm wondering why these people aren't all over Obama for appointing the CEO of GE as the head of his jobs panel. Why is it that Obama gets a pass by these people and let him get away were perpetuating class warfare when one of his bestest buddies (company) is one of the biggest violators out there (if not theeeeeee biggest)? Why is it that they don't ask why that persons company is shipping jobs overseas, why they are getting government money without paying any taxes and why them getting tax breaks COULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED, but a "D" (Rangel) essentially got a kick back (30 million for his state-11 million for his district) to allow it to continue. So...anticap et al....WTF is this? You guys are voting for this hypocrite again I suppose? They are all (D and R's) guilty. Stop voting the letter and vote the person out who doesn't do what WE want and lies otherwise your just part of the problem and not part of the solution. Corporate Occupation of the United States We are at war. Our corporate controlled government (through corporate lobbying and election funding ) is out of the peoples control. People want government control back. Makes sense to me... I feel US corporate capitalism (corporatism) is based on an economic fascism: To have a corporate being where the chain of command eventually muddles all responsibility to any human being. These corporate beings are running your life and controlling your government. (Enough to really make an individual mad and protest.) The corporate being does not exist, and when it comes to face it's corporate responsibility, it is a piece of paper. That is plain and simply wrong. Restore capitalism to individual responsible chains of command, or this war will be lost. movetoamend.org Sign the petition to amend the Constitution for revoking corporate personhood.
