SEATTLE – The Phuong family returned Tuesday afternoon to lock the doors on their home and collect whatever valuables they could. It was a tough task returning to their home where one of their own lost his life.

Seattle fire investigators are searching for the cause of a fire that killed a teenager. The fire at the home on Trenton Street started around 8 p.m. Monday in a two-car garage.

The six people inside the home had no idea their attached garage was on fire until a neighbor came to help.

Just after 8 p.m. Monday, Thom Schwendeman's wife Jackie was walking their new dog when she saw heavy smoke coming from their neighbor's garage. She had her daughter call 911 while she went to help.

"She pounded on the door and the flames started coming up and she rounded everybody up and got them out of there. Grandpa was having trouble getting around, she literally picked him up and carried him out of there and set him in a car," said Schwendeman.

When firefighters arrived the garage was completely engulfed in flames and the fire had spread to the house.

Sean Phuong is still trying to deal with the loss of his only son Prackseth "Patrick" Soeun, who died inside the family's South Park home. While flames tore through the house, he frantically searched for his son but couldn't find him.

Family members worried the teenager was still inside, but firefighters searched the house and couldn't find him, the garage was already too dangerous to enter.

It was only after the fire was out that firefighters found a body in the garage.

Schwendeman said the neighbors are a friendly family.

"They were a tight-knit group, nice people always inviting me over for a barbecue," he said.

And with three generations ranging from babies to grandparents living under one roof, neighbors say they have a large support system.

"Hopefully they will figure out what happened and the family will pull together and be able to get through this," said Rhondie Obedoza.

Fire investigators spent the morning searching for evidence near the garage. The cause won't be determined until an autopsy on Patrick Soeun is complete.

The family is now left trying to figure out how they can rebuild their lives.

traveldoc - If the address is so important to you, it was the corner of 5th Ave S and S Trenton St. in South Park. chevelle70ss - "Fire investigators spent the morning searching for evidence near the garage. The cause won't be determined until an autopsy on Patrick Seoun is complete." They are not doing an autopsy to figure out WHO was in there, they know who was in there because they DID ask the family. They are doing an autopsy to see if they can figure out WHY it happened. And everyone having problems with the grammar - Yes, the news station(s) should double or triple check what they are posting, but the grammar should NOT be what's most important. A 17 year old guy DIED in that fire. 17! He hadn't even began to live life yet! And now, now he doesn't have a life to live. His family is left without him. No parent should ever have to plan a funeral for their child, let alone grandparents too. That's what you should be worrying about, not the idiot that didn't spell check.

The reason for three generations living under the same roof might have to do with the way they are raised? They are Cambodian, I know this because I've known the deceased teenager for going on 7 years now, we went to school together for 4 years. I also know that some cultures, including Cambodians, believe in taking care of their parents once they have grown up and are working and can support them, it's a way to give back to their parents for raising them. On a different note, why in Gods name does everyone suspect that us teenagers in South Park are so bad? Patrick was a religious boy, quiet, good. It was believed that he was working on his CAR in the garage when the fire started, not cooking meth or anything else. If you go look at the house now, you will see his burnt up truck in the garage, where he had been. Another fact, by the time the firetrucks showed up, which wasn't too long after it started, the roof of the garage had collapsed, probably trapping him in there.

I really don't think the family of the deceased cares about the grammar. Neither should we. They lost their son! For those of you obsessed with grammar, or what the missing details are, why are you not the ones working for King 5? Oh thats right, you can't pull your heads out of your spell checker and show a little compassion for the family here?

For those of you that think grammar or spelling is more important than "news", the "news" actually was reported here: A teenager was killed in a garage fire despite the efforts of a good samaritan. Very sad indeed.

Weird, clearly King5 corrupted my previous login.. when I use it it says OOPS! and the page refreshes a zillion times. Yet new registration worked fine?? and Login? Anywhoo. I ran the article through grammar and spelling check and nothing came up as glaring obvious grammar problems, so could you "spell" them out?

Does it occur to anyone that a fire destroys a body and makes it very difficult to identify? And which of you would want to see or try to identify a body badly burned? This nation used to be a nation of extended families with generations living together in the same home, it was not an anomaly. People sharing is an age old tradition, and one we might do well to emulate today. The idea that everybody has to have their own whatever is a product of consumerism and has led to much loneliness and lack of fulfillment. The idea of a 17 year old dying in a fire is terrible, and a thought far more potent than the address of the tragedy. If grammar and spelling slip, perhaps we ought to ask ourselves if we could do as well in a tight schedule?Everyone wants to know everything instantly. Perhaps we should be patient for the facts to be clarified.

Adding that the dog she was walking was a "new" dog is a very peculiar detail to include in this story, particularly when so many grammatical details were overlooked.

It amazes me the way a news story is written. The placement of words and the grammer. I am the last to correct spelling and grammer but really in a news paper or news station. Seems something put out to public would be correct, even if it is typo errors.

So what you are saying is that if there are 6 people in the home then it's automatically a rental? My husband and I have 4 children between us and we are home owners.
