SEATTLE, Wash. -- All lanes of southbound I-5 at Spokane Street are open again this morning. A serious accident caused by a canoe briefly blocked several lanes overnight.

State troopers say a canoe somehow fell off a car just before 1:00 a.m. One car swerved to avoid it, but the driver slammed into another car as a result.

Two people were hurt, but their injuries aren't serious. The wreckage has since been cleared.

Hopefully there are registration number's on that canoe that will indicate the owners / possessors I.D. and proved a means of prosecution. .... Maybe ......

A good friend of mine was killed on his motorcycle when he hit a trailer hitch in the fast lane, he went down and 3 cars ran him over before people could stop,, unfortunately his wife was riding her bike and got to witness the whole thing. Sure would be nice if people could take the proper care when it comes to things attached to their cars. Glad the idiot who lost the canoe didn't kill anyone.

So did the drivers who failed to properly secure a lethal device to their car arrested for attempted man slaughter? I am tired of seeing these reports and never hearing about the penalties to the drivers who hap haphazardly secure their cargo that could kill me, my kids, your kids, in an instant.

I see Stripe was at it again. Tsk, they NEVER learn...don't feed a gremlin after midnight. Seriously, I'm glad the injuries weren't any worse than what was reported. And really...'somehow' the canoe fell off? It may not be a table. It may not be building supplies. But it seems obvious that this is a case of an improperly secured load...unless somebody's now blaming the latch on their Thule or Yakima with mysteriously going bad in this particular instance when they're using it...in the middle of the night. Honestly Mr./Ms. Canoe Owner, did you even REMEMBER to double-check that the thing was latched and locked properly before climbing in your vehicle and driving off? In the dark it's kind of EASY to forget such things. But "somehow", I sense that the class action lawyers will be salivating; indeed the gremlins will be feasting once again. And of course, anything to claim that it wasn't something as simple as 'user error'...

Let me guess. The owners of the canoe somehow mysteriously disappeared never to be seen again.

"State troopers say a canoe somehow fell off a car......". Uh, somehow? How about it probably wasn't properly secured?
