PORT ORCHARD, Wash. Viktoriya Keller likes to think she knows everything about her little sister, but she had no idea Lidya Polunets had braces.

"I'm like, 'Oh my God? You got braces?," said Viktoriya, 16 when she saw her 14-year-old sister Lidya Monday at camp.

The sisters had not seen each other in four months.

Lidya lives with foster parents. Viktoriya was recently adopted. They're two of the 97 siblings taking part in "Camp to Belong" in Kitsap County.

The camp reunites brothers and sisters separated by adoptions or by assignments to foster families.

"While they're here they get to actually learn what it's like to live with a brother or sister," said camp director April Van Gesen.

The camp is run by Foster Family Connections in collaboration with Children's Administration. Counselors are all volunteers.

There are 8 camps across the country and one in Australia.

Children really should be adopted out together. It is such a stupid thing to separate children who are already having problems feeling like they belong. Some of the strongest relationships should be between siblings, and those relationships are meant to last for years, so you can have an ally when you are grown. If I was adopting, i would never split up siblings.

As the host camp for Camp to Belong, it was a joy to see the connections that happen between siblings at camp. For the last two years April and her incredible staff of volunteers served tirelessly making this an amazing week that these kids will never forget. All of the staff at Miracle Ranch were honored to serve such an amazing group! We can't wait until next year!

This makes me cry. I hate it when siblings are separated like that. Can't they keep them together? Seems like they suffer enough trauma just being taken away for whatever reason from their family of orgin and then to be further separated just seems like cruelty and more child abuse.
