ARLINGTON, Wash. - After 32 years, an Arlington woman is reunited with her long lost niece, who was separated from her family after one of the worst tragedies in U.S. history.
Emily Snider's brother was killed in the Jim Jones Guyana tragedy in 1978. He was brainwashed and forced to travel to the country of Guyana where leaders of the so-called People's Temple were tricked into drinking cyanide. If they didn't they were shot.
Darrell Keller left behind his only daughter, 3-year-old Jennifer, who until today lived in fear that the People's Temple would one day harm her.
"The history sickens me," says Emily Snider. "For the last 32 years we have felt empty not knowing where she was."
Snider's years of searching are over. After hundreds of emails and questions, Emily Snider finally found her long lost niece on Facebook.
"It's amazing," she says.
Jennifer Keller, now 35, lives in Texas. As it turns out, she had also spent much of her life searching for her family.
"I finally feel whole," Keller told KING 5. "I can't explain what this means. I've spent my entire life without a family. This is unbelievable."
Snider cries tears of joy every time as she listens to Keller's voice.
"I feel so much of my brother in her," Snider says.
The family is trying to find the money to bring Keller to Washington where her entire family lives.
"We are just now meeting this wonderful person," Snider says. "But she is going to have a lot of people to meet when she gets home."
