HealthLink special looks at reproductive cancers
01:44 PM PDT on Wednesday, September 6, 2006
SEATTLE – There are few things people won’t talk about these days, but when symptoms of reproductive cancer occur, many men and women are dangerously silent.
Diagnosis Cancer: Below The Belt, a HealthLink Special with Jean Enersen, tackles the subjects men and women need to know, but might be afraid to ask, about testicular, cervical and ovarian cancers.
The special features the inspiring stories of several patients and doctors:
- Lance Armstrong’s bout with testicular cancer has inspired all types of cancer survivors to “live strong.” Find out how he’s making a tremendous impact on survivors right here in Seattle.
- Bill Doba, Washington State University’s head football coach, reveals how ovarian cancer affected his family and became his toughest opponent.
- University of Washington’s Dr. Laura Koutsky was instrumental in getting FDA approval of the vaccine that prevents cervical cancer. Meet the local teenager who is one of the first in the country to try the vaccine.
- The Meche family of Whidbey Island illustrates how cancer can be inherited through family genes. Hear about three sisters who decided to have surgery to prevent cancer.
- Comedian Tom Greene shares his personal experience with testicular cancer and sings his “self-examination” song.
Diagnosis Cancer: Below The Belt, a HealthLink Special with Jean Enersen, airs Thursday at 10 p.m. on KING 5. It will re-play Saturday on KONG TV at 9 p.m., and on Monday at 10 p.m. on NorthWest Cable News.
