From diets to face creams to clothes, it's no secret there's a niche for
creating custom products. Now there's a service that that looks at your
health personally.
"One size fits all medicine no longer works, it's individualized," said
Gary Sandman, founder of Individual Health Solutions.
Sandman believes the key to a healthy and younger looking body is by a
specially formulated vitamin plan.
"We're able to program a supplement program based on what your genetics-
your biochemistry needs," Sandman said.
Something that 14-year-old Amanda Welborn said she's learning that first
hand. For years she has tried almost everything to treat her skin
condition, psoriasis.
"It's really embarrassing," Welborn said.
Nothing worked, but when her mother decided the “right prescription”
would come from a “custom vitamin,” things started to clear up.
"I used it and it went away and that's never happened before," Welborn
said.
The theory is that the difference between vitamins on the shelf and a
custom blend custom one's is that custom vitamins replenish the “exact”
mineral and nutrient that your are missing.
Some say preventing symptoms like depression, sleep disorders, skin
problems, allergies, PMS, food cravings, headaches and more.
"It's like feeling good and feeling healthy comes out when you balance
out the basic needs of your body," Sandman said.
Creating your signature supplement is done without blood tests and
tissue samples.
"We did over 20,000 individuals and did extensive blood research. We can
predict with 99 percent surety what your biochemical imbalance is,"
Sandman said.
Your body's needs are determined from an online questionnaire and 48
hours later you get your results.
"An in depth analysis of the test, of the nutrients you need to take, of
your food groups, the type of exercise that best suits you," Sandman
said.
Vicki Kordell said not only have the vitamins helped her to combat
symptoms of depression, she believes they are helping her to look and
feel younger.
"I noticed an increase in energy," Kordell said. "I do think I look
younger than 44 years old."
Dr. Caroline Appovian, director of weight and nutrition at Boston
Medical Center is skeptical about how they gather your genetic
information.
"It's very cool in theory," Dr. Appovian said. "This customized vitamin
program doesn't even look at your blood values or anything."
She agrees vitamins are important, but said they don't need to be
customized. Any good multivitamin will do.
