The National Institutes of Health has posted dozens of research studies on its Web site looking at the physical benefits of meditation.

Breathe, relax and let go - that's the basis of the exercise. Dozens of scientific studies have found it can lower blood pressure, improve depression and even let patients cut back on their medication.

"I have a lot of students with stroke," said Shashi Pottathil, Yoga & Meditation Center.

"I've seen the difference in people who have depression, anxiety, stress related problems," said Sandra Vanatko.

Vanatko began taking classes a year ago because she says stress took over her mind and body.

"Just thinking too much and it stresses you out -- too stressful," Vanatko said.

Deep breaths are the key to calming down.

"You are to settle down your body and focus on the moment and you can cure the problem," Pottathil said.

Sandra says taking a few deep breaths and listening to relaxing music is bound to make anyone feel better.

"It helps every aspect and it can help everybody at any age," she said.
