A surprising side-effect of liposuction
07:08 PM PST on Friday, January 19, 2007
You expect to look thinner after liposuction, but what else can happen? Some patients are experiencing some surprising consequences after lipo.
When avid runner Debbie Kubiet had liposuction to smooth out some trouble spots, she got a little more than she bargained for.

Six months after liposuction, Debbie's bra size grew from a 34B to 36C.
"You wake up one day, and it's like, 'my bras don't fit correctly,'" she said.
Six months after liposuction, Debbie's bra size grew from a 34B to 36C. When she told her surgeon, Dr. Eric Finzi, he said she wasn't alone.
"We saw that it's almost half of the women who I had done liposuction of their stomach and waist had an increase in breast size," he said.
Finzi published a study of 60 patients that found significant breast enhancement naturally occurred in 43 percent of women who had liposuction, generally one to two cup sizes.
"When you remove this fat, then the other hormones in the body are able to increase the breast size," he explained.
Other possible lipo effects include scarring, depressions or divots in the skin and numbness that can last for months.
Finzi says problems often develop under general anesthesia rather than local anesthesia.
"Any time anyone goes under general anesthesia, there's a chance they won't wake up,” he said. “People get blood clots."
Debbie now pays more for expensive jogging bras, but otherwise has come to terms with her new assets.
"It doesn't matter. I haven't noticed that I'm in any type of discomfort or pain when I'm out running," she said.
Other effects of lipo include lower cholesterol and less back pain. Lipo isnt intended for significant weight loss. it only gets rid of the inches, not the pounds.
