It’s obvious that drunk driving can kill members in our community and our children. But what may not be obvious is how often children who die in motor-vehicle accidents die in accidents that involve alcohol. New data out today help paint the picture of our improvements and opportunities to protect children better.

Motor Vehicle Accidents & Alcohol
  • Good progress: >40% reduction in child deaths over last decade
  • Motor-vehicle accidents still biggest killer kids
  • 12% children who die in crashes die in the car of the drunk driver
Pediatrics Study:
  • 2001-2010 over 2300 children died in alcohol-related crashes
  • Over 60% children who died weren’t in car seats
  • 65% children were riding in car with drunk driver

What Parents Need To Know:
  • Zero tolerance for alcohol and driving
  • Safe pick-ups for teens, no questions asked
  • 1/3 of fatal drunk drivers are young, new drivers (16-25 years)
