Where’s Waldo has become a fixture at Seattle Children's. The lovable children's character moved from the pages of his books to a life-size game played every day by patients at the hospital.

But now the construction project that brought him there is nearly finished, bringing a bittersweet goodbye for the Waldo watchers.

How Waldo got to the site is a mystery, but Sellen Construction workers have enjoyed watching the kids react.

“To see the lights go on in the morning, the curtains come open and just to see the look in their eyes when they're scanning the field or the building trying to find him,” said one worker.

Now, more than two years after he appeared, Waldo is leaving for good, along with the rest of his buddies from Sellen Construction.  They’re going to miss him too.

"You know it's like working with a co-worker for two years,” said Jerry Kelly, construction worker.

There’s no mistaking the impact the madcap mannequin has had on Seattle Children’s. So where’s Waldo now? Off to a new adventure.

Seattle Children’s new hospital expansion is called Building Hope and opens April 2013. It will house a new emergency department and the country’s first inpatient cancer unit for adolescent and young adult cancer patients.
