Doctors often tell mothers that there are many health advantages to breastfeeding their children. Now researchers say it could later help their kids in school.
A study from Boston Children's Hospital found that for every additional month a child was breastfed, his or her language skills advanced at age 3.
They also scored higher on intelligence tests at age 7.
The current recommendation calls for women to exclusively breastfeed for the first six months and to continue breastfeeding through one year.
Only about a third of women continue to breastfeed by the time their baby reaches six months.
