Locally, the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer research helps fund Dr. Kruk's work, and so far the results of her urine test are encouraging, more than 90 percent accurate.
Dr. David Baker, a Biochemistry Professor at the University of Washington, is trying to decipher the protein puzzle with a game called "Foldit." The online competition puts your brain to work. Solving the puzzle could help lead to a cure for cancer.
On the personal side, we check in with Cecilia Izzo. When we met Cecilia two years ago, her breathing was heavy. A diagnosis of stage four lung cancer left her with just one lung and a curved airway. Now, five years after her diagnosis of lung cancer and two years after our first meeting, Cecilia is going strong.
And in Lake Forest Park, a group of girls figured out how to fight cancer and honor their friend, Sydney Coxon, who died of a brain tumor. After Sydney's death, the girls bonded together to form a fund raising group called the "Pink Polka Dots Guild."
