The U.S. obesity rate is holding steady at a third of the population. The latest numbers from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, show nearly 35 percent of American adults are obese, according to their BMI measurement.

That number hasn't changed for nearly a decade, leading some experts to say that obesity rates are leveling off.

Middle-aged adults were more likely to be obese than the young and elderly, and African Americans have the highest obesity rate, followed by Hispanics, whites and Asians.
