A new study confirms colonoscopy screening is the best way to detect colon cancer.

Harvard researchers found regular colonscopies could prevent 40 percent of colorectal cancers.

They recommend people with an average risk for the disease be screened every 10 years with shorter intervals for those with benign tumors or a family history of colorectal cancer.

And under health care reform, it’s worth noting that colonoscopies are one of the free preventive services required of every health insurance policy.
