A new study will determine whether vitamin D can help diabetes patients avoid the full blow disease.

The National Institute of Health will enroll 2,500 adults with pre-diabetes from 20 centers across the country. Patients will receive a high dose of vitamin D or a placebo pill.

Smaller studies have suggested the supplements can lower the risk for diabetes by 25 percent.

To learn more about the study, including how to take part, go to the National Institute of Health website.
